We basically had the streets to ourselves, and since bicyclists already have the disctinction of being both motorists and pedestrians (see entry title), we werent bound by the usual traffic formalities of lanes, speed limits, and red lights. Essay Grief and Bereavement in The Catcher in the Rye
The Catcher in the Rye has been described, analyzed, rebuffed, and critiqued over the years. Each writer expresses a different point of view: It is a story reflecting teen-agers talk--thoughts-emotions--actions; or angst. I believe it is an adults reflection of his own unresolved grief and bereavements. That adult is the author, J.D. Salinger. He uses his main character, Holden, as the voice to vent the psychological misery he will not expose -or admit to. If there are 785 instances of profanity in the book, I contend there are well over a hundred scenes where Holden used the word depressed. DAmbrosio presents this same thought saying, It should be obvious by now that I dont see The Catcher in the Rye asâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦He believes that there is something in Salingers own life that is being portrayed through the character Holden. Ambrosio does not believe that this is a coming-of-age, or the anxious life of a teen-ager story. Instead, he believes the story is a search for a disturbing and extreme loss of identity. The book is, he claims, All about suicide and silence(31). I found Ambrosios correlations to be very telling and supportive of my thesis. Early in Salingers life, he faced one the cultural illnesses widespread in the North Eastern states of America. It was the virulent disease of anti-Semitism. Salinger lived in New York City, where he was raised as the son of Jewish parents. The 1920s and 1930s were a time in America when Anti-Semitism was written into the policies of many institutions. His heritage automatically deprived him from attending the best colleges: Harvard, Yale, and Dartmouth. He was prevented from belonging to certain social clubs, from certain professions, and from the rank of officer in the U. S. Military. Reporters and editors, trying to interview Salinger about his early life, ran into a prickly silent wall. Margaret, his daughter reveals why. During the Depression and World War 11, from 1939 to 1945, anti Semitism was at its peak. Jews met a wall of discrimination at colleges, clubs, and career opportunities. Why We Observe Children free essay sample
We observe the environment for hazards to ensure all equipment and materials are safe as well as properly disinfected and cleaned to prevent spreading illnesses. By observing the strengths, interests and learning style of each child helps plan effective individual goals and classroom curriculums. Educators also asses how receptive the children are to the curriculum to see what changes can be made to improve the overall effectiveness of curriculum. Another reason educators observe is to asses progress, evaluate areaââ¬â¢s needing improvement and how they are reaching the children as well as plan better curriculums and set individual goals. The four parts of the observation cycle are connected and equally important. The first step in the cycle is to observe, or to look and watch at what is happening around you. Second, record and document is where you write down what you see and hear the children or specific child doing. We will write a custom essay sample on Why We Observe Children or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Most observations will have a first and a final draft to make sure only descriptive information is included. Next is where the educator analyzes the information recorded and documented to see what the observations are telling you about the child and environment and compare past observations and other children to asses progress. Last is to modify and make changes based on observations for improvement and apply those changes to see if they are effective. The observation cycle is continues and each part is not effective without the others. I have encountered a few challenges while observing and recording in the field. One of the biggest challenges is writing everything you see and hear as it happens without missing something important. I have started writing in short hand, making notes of key points and writing only a few descriptive words to describe what is happening around me, then I am able to go back and write my final draft I write my observation into full sentences. I am still working on this and hope it gets easier with practice. Another challenge of observing and recording in the field is doing the observations without letting the children know I am watching them. As soon as I get out my note book or folder the children want to know what I am doing and why I am writing. My mentor has explained that I am a student just like them and have school work. When I am asked, I just reinforce what she has said by telling them I am doing my homework. I have found that they loose interest quickly and I am usually able to proceed with my observation or begin a new one if to much time has passed.

Youth Unemployment Essay Example For Students
Youth Unemployment Essay Youth Unemployment Essay causes trouble to everyone. Some people dont care about youth unemployment . However it is a major problem in Canada caused mainly by the lack of education that the youths are receiving and the lack of jobs that are available. High unemployment amongst youth is directly related to the lack of education, training, and skills. High school dropouts are four times more likely to be unemployed as those students that have completed four or more years of college. High school graduates earned $242 more a week than high school dropouts in 1994. Minimum wage jobs may be easy to find , but they may not provide enough pay to meet your needs and they wont provide enough to support a family. Those who have completed four or more years of post-secondary education earn $300 a week more than a person with just a high school education. That is $15, 600 a year more. Three quarters of those under the age of 25 who have received unemployment insurance have no post -secondary education. Todays jobs require a higher level of education and skill , the employment prospects for these young people could continue to decline. We will write a custom essay on Youth Unemployment specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now It is predicted that all jobs created between 1990 and 2000 will require more than sixteen years of education. This number will keep on rising in the future. The unemployment rate for high school drop outs is more than double the rate for university graduates. People that enter the labour market without any extra training or post-secondary education have a tremendous chance of being unemployed. Companies are hiring the most skilled and experienced workers, letting go workers with less experience, usually youth. Youth with the least amount of experience are usually the last people that are hired. Where do you get experience and skills from; post-secondary education. The hardest hit youth group in the 1990s by far have been those with only a high school education or less. For them in 1995 there was 997, 000 less jobs than 1990, this number has been increasing dramatically. In just about every case the more experienced worker will get hired. The present education system is doing a good job at providing students with the tools to gain employment. The government and business are not doing a good job to help provide opportunities for employment. The goals of the education system must remain as they have always been, that is, to teach us how to read, write, analyze, grow, create, and build. We must strive to get the youth to think for themselves. These are the most important skills to bring to the job market. There are some improvements that the government can do on the education system, but it would require some investment in teachers, resources, technology, buildings, and student development. University and college investments, research, and development must be a priority in order to keep many young Canadians competitive. The government must get a more affordable post-secondary education system. Students must not always be faced with the decision of whether to apply for a student loan because the worry that they might not be able to pay it back. The government must expand the child care system so young parents can go and get a good education. Most youths are working part time jobs while they attend post-secondary education or that is the only position they can find available for them. Part time jobs are not very stable, generally there are no benefits available, and there is not that much money involved. The chances for many young people to move past these jobs are bleak, especially with the spread of technological unemployment.
